This month we’re excited to share with our readers the interview we conducted with Archi of the newly minted Formosa Soundsystem. Formosa is the old name for Taiwan, first given to the island by Portuguese seafarers. The southern city of Tainan, where the sound system is based, was once the capital. It’s fitting that the former seat of power, from where Dutch colonizers were ousted centuries ago, is the center of a bass music revolution in Taiwan today. In our Q&A with Archi, he reveals the how’s and the why’s that led to his setting up the first-ever soundsystem in Taiwan, his musical influences and inspirations, and what sounds inhabit his DJ sets at present.

We’ve worked with Archi previously, and are supremely happy to share with the world at large this unassuming, yet bass-tastic talent from southern Taiwan. Those who prefer reading the interview in Mandarin will find a link for doing that (click here!).

We had a nice little Q&A session with Gary Rowlands, better known as Tribal Dubs. The Cardiff-based producer and DJ’s “Sweetsick” track, alongside Dub Reaper’s “Lemon Head,” could be heard on Frozen Plate’s recent FZP07 release. This was his first-ever vinyl offering, and we hope it’s not the last! ��

To mark this occasion, we not only peppered him with some questions, but asked him to record a guest-mix as well. To make it worldwide, this time we teamed up with the Frontline crew 前線 from Taipei, and they were kind enough to host the guest-mix on their Frontline Radio show.

Idén év elején egy frissen indult kiadó jelent meg a színtéren ez az LDH Records vagy másként Liverpool Dubstep Heads Records. Ahogy a nevük is sejteti Liverpool környéki dubstep rajongókból állt össze. Eddig két digitális kiadványuk volt, most pedig úton van egy különleges és limitált példányszámú lemez is.

A strassburgi vonatkozású dj és producer Illektré négy számot tartalmazó digitális EP-je nem régen jelent meg a Noizon Records gondozásában. Francia dubstep producer és brit grime MC-k közös munkájából született keményvonalas sötét elektronika. Kapucnikat felcsapni, bólogatásra felkészülni.

Egy egészen egyedi brit mini kiadót mutatok most be. Ők nem más mint a Soil and Sound. Zenéiket csak 10"-os transzparens lemezen jelentetik meg, melyek ráadásul egészen alacsony példányszámban elérhetők. A kiadó zenei világa egészen érdekes, egyszerre ötvözik a dub-dubstep-techno és downtempo stílusjegyeit. Az eredmény egy egészen különleges és izgalmas zenei kavalkád.  

A brit Strictly 140 kiadó soron következő EP-je április 20-án jelenik meg. Ezúttal Sativa négy zenéje lesz repertoáron. A kifejezetten erős összeállítás alapos bepillantást enged 2020 egyik legizgalmasabb producerének zenei világába. Súlyos mélyek, sötét, már-már disztópikus hangulat, ráadásul nyakunkon a pandémia és éppen ideje találni hozzá megfelelő zenét. Ez az lesz.

A brit Juan Forté kiadó első lemeze néhány nap alatt teljesen elfogyott és azóta is az egyik legkeresettebb tétel a használt lemezekkel foglalkozó oldalakon. Ez egyaránt köszönhető a teljesen egyedi borítótervnek és a páratlanul eredeti zenei választásnak. Nehezen elképzelhető, hogy az első lemezt felül lehetne múlni, azonban úgy tűnik, hogy a hamarosan megjelenő második korongjuk igencsak méltó lesz elődjéhez. Sőt!

Korábban is írtam már a londoni Sub:Clef kiadóról a SUBCLEF004 kapcsán. A legfrissebb kiadásuk a SUBCLEF05 ezúttal is a dubstep érzelem és gondolat gazdagabb vizeire navigál minket. A négy számos EP-n többe között egy nagy visszatérő is szerepel és két kimagasló remix. Nézzük mit raktak most össze nekünk.
